The Five Stages of a Hunter:
The different stages discribed below don't necessarily hold true
for every hunter. Many people may skip all the levels and go right
to the sportmen level, but others may just stay at the shooter level.
Everyone is different, but personally I will only hunt with a person
in the shooter stage once then never again. Young people that are
introduced to the shooting sports weather it be hunting, trapshooting,
or target shooting grow up and most likely won't become one of those
anti-gun bigots. They grow up more open minded about the shooting
sports weather they keep on persuing the sports or not, but understanding
the use, not the abuse of guns. I have a hard time believing guns
are the cause of the problems in the cities and suburbs. There are
many groups and Mayors that want to hold gun manufacturers responsible
for other peoples actions, when many of the real problems stem from
drug use and other inter-city problems maybe they should refocus
on what the real problems are. Are car manufactures responsible
for a person that drives a car through a crowd? So how can gun manfacturers
be responsible for peoples actions? Enough of that!
The Five (5) stages of hunters
* The Shooter: The shooter stage is the worst level to be at,
mainly new hunters start at this level. The shooter is most likely
to cause hunting accidents. The shooter may take wild shots. The
shooter is most interested in just shooting anything. This person
is quite easy to spot, they may just shoot a bird flying by at the
end of a "unproductive day", or shoot their gun at anything
just to shoot. This person is by-far the most dangerous in the woods.
Kids may go through this phase, but adult intervention can stop
this phase, by spending time with them at the gun range and talking
to them about animals, nature, safety, and that any day in the woods
is a productive day even if no animals are harvested. Without this
knowledge, a person may never get out of this stage and that's a
person that you don't want to hunt with, or even to be in the woods.
Don't Let This be You for everyone's sake if you cant understand
this, Find a new sport.
* Limiting-out: This stage is a person that's main concern is to
always limit-out or prove that they are the best. This stage is
not always a good stage to be in, but this person is much safer
than a Shooter. Everyone likes to harvest the game they are after,
but don't become obsessed by it. Remember safety first and enjoy
yourself in nature.
* Trophy Hunter: The trophy hunter is a person that is not typically
only outdoors for the trophy to hang on a wall. The trophy hunter
very much enjoys being outdoors and is very content with really
learning about the animals they are pursuing. This hunter is typically
very safe and enjoys nature
* Method: This hunter is very interested in the methods that are
used to harvest their game. They may use a black powder gun or bow
and arrow. Using their own home made arrows. This is a fun and enjoyable
level to be at also, they will also find it enjoyable to introduce
others to the enjoyment of the outdoors.
* Sportsmen: This is the highest level a hunter can achieve. The
sportsmen is someone that will find hunting most enjoyable when
they are teaching a young person about nature and the hunting or
shooting sports. They will be the first to help anyone that is interested
in going hunting or going for a walk in the woods. They may go hunting
with a camera or take a new hunter in the field so that they may
experience the joys of being outdoors. The enjoyment of seeing another
person harvest their first deer, or duck. Taking a kid that's parents
can't seem to find time for their own children or that really are
not interested in any of the shooting sports but are open minded
enough to let their young adults try a new experience. This is what
a Sportsmen does, this is the level that all hunters should achieve,
don't be a shooter this gives all hunters a bad name. Without the
introduction of the shooting sports to young adults the sports we
enjoy will not be carried on in future generations.
