1st Place 2006 Southwestern Grand 200 target Singles Sub Jr. Champion (195x200)
(Event #16)

1st Place Handicap Sub-Jr Champion at "The Grand American World Trapshooting Championships" 99x100 (Event #13)

Well, I was able to make the 26th Annual Southwestern Grand American in San Antonio Texas at the National Shooting Complex, what a great time had by all. I took 1st Place on Saturday April 22, 2006 during the 200 target single Championship. After this shoot my funds are gone! The season most likely will be over. Come on and order from BassPro and Cheaper than Dirt to help. Thanks for your support.

At the Southwestern Grand, I now have a new sponsor, I now shoot a Perazzi Shotgun. Thanks Tim (You the Man).

Here are the winners from the 2006 Southwestern Grand American

2005 ATA Illinois State Shoot I was there for 5 days, what a great time and I was able to meet some great new friends that enjoy trap shooting like I do. The competition was real tough, but that's what makes it fun. I had my 5 cases of 1 1/8oz #8 2 3/4drams Wolf Performance ammunition Shot Shells, a great attitude, a smile on my face, and ready to win. I came Home with 3 - 1st Places 2 from the 16 yard line and 1 for Handicap on the last day.

I am a 15 year old that has been trapshooting for 4 1/2 years. I mainly shoot at McHenry Sportsmen's Club in Johnsburg, Illinois on the weekends the very first person to help with my Trapshooting was Tim Krause, what a great person he is. This man didn't even know me but he was willing to help.

Funds governs how much I am able to shoot. I am a junior member of the NRA (National Rifle Association), and the ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association). I am classified as Expert by the NRA Marksmanship Qualification program, and have passed the Illinois Hunter Safety Education Program.

The only sport that I participate in is Trapshooting, because I really need to just focus on shooting at this point in time. In years past I was in the wrestling program at our school. Wresting is a fun sport and I even went to DeKalb for the State Wrestling Tournament in 2003, I believe that I was about 12th in the State at the 65 pound weight class. This year has only been Trapshooting every weekend.

July 3rd, 2005 during practice I shot 149x150 at McHenry Sportsmen Club.

At the Wisconsin State Shoot I was moved to the 21 1/2 yard line just 5 days before, I was moved to the 20 1/2 yard line at Northbrook Sports Club at the Chicago Grand Handicap, by shooting a 96x100. Winning 1st Place over all classes, there were about 65 participants in the Handicap event. I was really hoping that such a fine Gun Club as the Northbrook Gun Club is, that I could either get the club to fully sponsor me or one of their great members to help.

I won the sub - junior winter trapshooting league at McHenry Sportsmen Club. Third at the Illinois State Shoot for 200 targets from the 16 yard line, in 2004. April 2005 at St. Charles Gun Club I won 1st Place Sub-Jr. Class and received a fine money clip with the ATA logo on it. May 15 I won my class at Darien WI. I had a 50 target shoot off and winning by 3 targets.

My 2004 16 yard ATA average was 88X100. This year 91.6x100. I have shot 25X25 eight times. In March 2004, I shot 50x50 for the first time, and 97x100 twice, and 125 straight in July 2005.

When I am not Trap Shooting you can find me playing Paintball with my friends. I found a New website Paintball Top Gun that pretty cool! It has a bunch of different paintball field locations. You can find a list of paintball fields in Illinois near where I live, and also some fun paintball games and information. Learn about The history of Paintball, some of the first paintball guns (Splatmaster) and the Splatballs one of the Origional paintballs.

I shot my first 25 straight, 2 years ago at Darien Sporting Goods in Darien, Wisconsin. In the month of November 2003, I made 25 straight 3 times and missing 50 straight by just 2. Well now I try not to count targets, because it messes up concentration. This is when you try to reach the next level, the mind game of trapshooting.

A Word to the wise: Don't let a lost target effect your next shot. The miss is over. It's hard to do but important.

I have another new sponsor. I found them looking for Yamaha Parts Powerpartsplus.com. I needed Yamalube for my Yamaha. They carry Yamaha Rhino Parts, Brush Country Camouflage Clothing. If your looking for Harley, Ducati, or other motorcycle parts Please visit MotorcyclePartsBandit.com It's amazing that not one company or organization in the state I live (Illinois) has in anyway helped a young Trapshooter but Texas really has helped alot and some other states in the south and in CA.

Tip of the Day: Don't count targets, shoot one clay target at a time. 1 out of 1 - 50 times. By doing this you only have to hit one target.

If you know a young shooter support them to become the best they can be. If not I need your help. Shotgun shooting is my sport of choice at the present time and my focus is on Trapshooting. My goal is to shoot 800 practice clay targets a week, shoot as many registered targets as I can 4000 completed. Also there are several other large shooting events that I would like to attend. With help from other people interested in the shooting sports, I can achieve all of these goals. The problem is acquiring the funds needed to accomplish a rigorous schedule. Please contact me if you can help in anyway. Remember that the youth of today must carry on the traditions of shooting sports. Thank You "Shoot Straight"

What has Happened Lately

During the 2005 Wisconsin State Shoot the trigger broke again. Tom Larkin fixed it right up for me, him and his wife Ann Dee Larkin own "The Stock Shop" Thank You I couldn't have won the Doubles event 30 minutes after you repaired my Beretta 682 with out your help.

I just got back from 6 days of shooting in Wisconsin, but I still need to get to the a Zone shoot, Iowa State and the Grand American.

During practice on July 3,2005 I shot a 149x150, Yes I dropped the last target.

The Illinois State Shoot was a great time. I had the opportunity to meet some great new friends. This sport is like no other the Sub-Jr's were all having a great time together, and even cheered each other on during the different matches. I hope that we all each other again soon. I received3 - 1st Places during the week. The last one was on Sunday the big Handicap event.

At the Great Lakes Grand May 24 and 25 I won 1st place for the Sub. Jr. Handicap both days and 2nd place on Tuesday in the 16 yard. Sub Jr.. Because of funds I could only make two days, I can use your HELP.

April 27th, 2005 I took 1st place in the Sub-Jr. class at St. Charles Gun Club at the ATA shoot, I won a money clip with the ATA Logo on it.

April 10, 2005 at a ATA shoot at Boxhorn Gun Club Muskego, Wi. I shot a 95x100 at 16 yds.Over the first weekends in March 2005, I shot 97x100 twice, a 50x50 straight and 25x25 5 times.

I want to Thank everyone who has helped me with cash donations or the top quality equipment. Thank You for making this equipment affordable to me.

Boxhorn Gun Club Muskego, Wi.

I joined the Boxhorn Jr. Trapshooting League, This is a great gun club, everyone is super friendly, and the club house is nice. The youth trapshooting league is open to anyone under the age of 18. It includes two weeks of educational shooting and 18 weeks of league shooting. All juniors receive reduced rates on shells and shooting (I really take advantage of this). I bet Rick Schim didn't expect one of his Jr. trapshooter's to be shooting twice a week and shooting about 13 rounds a week, especially when I live 45 Mlles away. The Gun Club takes their youth trapshooter's to the Wisconsin State shoot with all fees and shells paid for by the club on the last day of the event. League fees are $10 per kid. Last year there were 50 youth trapshooter's in the league. Also we have to sell some raffle tickets to help pay for the State Shoot in Wisconsin.

The Game of Trapshooting

Trapshooting is a very popular sport in the United States along with Skeet, Five Stand, and Sporting Clays. There are over 50,000 people of all ages trapshooting, and about 82 million registered clay targets are thrown each year. There are three types of trapshooting games - 16 yard, handicap, and doubles. All games are 25 shells from 5 different shooting stations.

Handicap: In handicap the shooting distances are increased and the shooters are grouped by skill. The distances are increased in one-yard increments up to 27 yards. All shooters are grouped together by skill level; shooters in a squad must be within two yards of each other. The target machines oscillate in the same manner as in Singles and the shooters move from station to station in the same manner as Singles.

Doubles: Doubles are shot from the 16 yard line. A pair of target are thrown at the same time. Doubles follow a consistent course, typically about 35 degrees.

16 yard: In this event there are five trapshooters at five different stations, located 16 yards from the trap house. Each shooter shoots one shot at each of five targets at each station. There are a total of 25 targets in a round of trap. Shooters are required to wear eye and ear protection. Shooters load only one shell at a time when it is their turn to shoot. When not shooting, shooters keep their actions open and the gun pointed in a safe direction.

The Squad Leader, is the person at the first station, this person will ask the other shooters, "Squad Ready?". When the squad is ready the Squad Leader then asks if the Puller is ready, "Puller ready?" After the Puller has replied, the Squad Leader says, "Eyes forward, let’s see a target". The puller releases a clay target from the trap house for the squad to see.

The Squad Leader begins the round by calling "Pull", and shooting the first target. Shooters at positions 2 through 5 shoot begin their rounds in sequential order. After the squad leader has shot his fifth shot, before rotation, the Scorer says, "Ready", this lets the squad know that it's their last shot before a rotation will happen. When the squad has shot at five targets they advance to the next station. With their chambers empty, actions open, and guns pointed in a safe direction, the squad rotates from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-1. The Scorer will call out scores as the squad is rotating to the new positions. When the Squad Leader determines that all shooters are in place, the second round begins. The Squad Leader calls for another target and the next round is started. After the last shooter has shot his or her last shot the puller will say, "Out", and the round is over. The squad should not move until the last target is shot in any round.

The clay targets are typically thrown by a voice-activated machine. Some clubs still use a button pushed by the puller. In either case, the shooter traditionally gives the command, "Pull", to launch a target. The target machine oscillates left to right continuously so that targets are launched at random angles from the house. This is a reactive sport. The shooter must see the target and react to its direction of travel, in order for the target to be broken.
